Café and small-kitchen scale
500L is the size for cafés, takeaway shops, bakeries, and small food-prep operations running a single shift of service. If the kitchen output is modest and the menu isn’t heavy on deep-fry or grill work, the 500L is usually what the hydraulic designer specifies. Step up to 1,000L when service volume grows or the menu shifts toward high-FOG cooking.
The $20k septic field replacement is the stakes
On rural commercial sites with on-site wastewater, grease in the disposal field is the single failure mode that ends in a five-figure repair bill. Getting the right trap in at build or fitout is a tiny fraction of that cost. The 500L sized correctly for a small kitchen pays for itself the first time it stops a congealed pipe downstream.
How it works
Greasy water enters via the 720mm invert inlet, slows down, and separates by density. Fats and oils float to the top, solids settle to the bottom, and the clean middle layer exits via the 650mm invert outlet to the disposal field or sewer. Periodic pump-out keeps the trap working within spec.

How long will it take to arrive?
Most tanks reach your block within two weeks of order. Every tank is made in Tasmania and delivered direct, so there’s no mainland freight wait. If you’ve got a critical date (plumber booked, build sign-off, certifier inspection), let us know at order time and we’ll flag any timing risk
Do you install the tank or sort the plumbing?
No. We deliver to your block and unload. Connecting it to your downpipe, pump, and house plumbing is a job for your plumber. On a new build the plumber usually has the inlet, outlet, and overflow rough-in ready before the tank arrives.
Do I need council approval to install a water tank?
For most rural and residential properties in Tasmania, a standalone rainwater tank doesn’t need council approval. Larger tanks, elevated tanks on stands, and tanks in heritage zones can have local rules, so a quick check with your council before you order is worth the five minutes. Fire fighting tanks tied to a building permit are usually approved as part of the build itself.
Can I pick the colour?
Yes. Most ranges come in 22+ Colorbond colours so you can match a roof, fascia, fence, or pick something that disappears into the bush. Use the colour picker on the product page. The live colour shows on the 3D tank view so you can see exactly how it’ll look before you check out.
What if I order the wrong size or change my mind?
Get in touch as soon as you can. If the tank hasn’t begun manufacturing, we may be able to change the tank colour or size. Unfortunately, once manufacturing starts (as all tanks are custom-made), we can’t accept returns.
