If you’re building or extending in a bushfire-prone area of Tasmania, a dedicated firefighting water supply isn’t optional. It’s a Deemed-to-Satisfy requirement under the state’s Bushfire-Prone Areas Code. The Tasmania Fire Service sets the minimum at 10,000 litres of water reserved for firefighting per building area, available at all times, separate from any water you draw for the house.

Tasmania’s bushfire seasons get long and dry. When trucks roll in, they need a tank they can rely on. That means sited within 90 metres of the building (measured as a hose lay, not a straight line), within 3 metres of a hardstand, fitted with a 50 mm valve and a 65 mm Storz coupling, and clearly marked with the red-and-white “W” sign.
