The Orion 1,700 Litres Colorbond Water Tank combines the strength of steel with the aesthetics of Colorbond colour. Constructed from genuine AQUAPLATE steel with a baked enamel interior for safe rainwater storage. Dimensions: 1680mm diameter x 770mm height. Available in 9 Colorbond colours.
Low enough to hide behind a fence line
The 1,700L sits at 770mm tall. That’s around knee height. A 1.2m fence covers it, a garage wall dwarfs it, and from the driveway you might walk past without noticing it. Match the Colorbond finish to the roof, the shed, or the building it tucks behind, and it slips into the property instead of becoming a feature.
Same lining, same compliance as the Aquaplate range
Colorbond adds a painted finish. It doesn’t change what’s inside. The interior uses the same food-grade polymer lining as the Aquaplate range: no metallic contact, no rust pitting, AS/NZS 4020 certified for potable water. You get the colour without giving up drinking-water status.
Where this shape fits
1680mm across, 770mm tall. Good for long narrow runs beside garages, under carport overhangs, or against a fence where a full-height tank would block the view. For the same diameter at 1550mm tall, the 3,400L holds nearly double at the expense of height.
Fit-up included
Strainer basket, overflow, and brass bibcock come fitted. Custom outlet placements and additional fittings are specified at the point of order for the plumber’s run.

How long will it take to arrive?
Most tanks reach your block within two weeks of order. Every tank is made in Tasmania and delivered direct, so there’s no mainland freight wait. If you’ve got a critical date (plumber booked, build sign-off, certifier inspection), let us know at order time and we’ll flag any timing risk
Do you install the tank or sort the plumbing?
No. We deliver to your block and unload. Connecting it to your downpipe, pump, and house plumbing is a job for your plumber. On a new build the plumber usually has the inlet, outlet, and overflow rough-in ready before the tank arrives.
Do I need council approval to install a water tank?
For most rural and residential properties in Tasmania, a standalone rainwater tank doesn’t need council approval. Larger tanks, elevated tanks on stands, and tanks in heritage zones can have local rules, so a quick check with your council before you order is worth the five minutes. Fire fighting tanks tied to a building permit are usually approved as part of the build itself.
Can I pick the colour?
Yes. Most ranges come in 22+ Colorbond colours so you can match a roof, fascia, fence, or pick something that disappears into the bush. Use the colour picker on the product page. The live colour shows on the 3D tank view so you can see exactly how it’ll look before you check out.
What if I order the wrong size or change my mind?
Get in touch as soon as you can. If the tank hasn’t begun manufacturing, we may be able to change the tank colour or size. Unfortunately, once manufacturing starts (as all tanks are custom-made), we can’t accept returns.
